[2023.01] Data Umbrella Newsletter: January
We organize data science events for the community.
Data Umbrella is a non-profit global community for underrepresented persons in data science. We organize online data science events for the community. All levels are welcome. Our Code of Conduct applies to all of our spaces.
Congratulations to Sandra Meneses, a Data Umbrella team member, for becoming a core contributor to the PyMC library in December 2022. Sandra joined the Data Umbrella PyMC sprint in February 2022 and was instrumental in refactoring the sprint website for our PyMC Open Source Working Sessions in July-August 2022. Sandra has continued to contribute to the PyMC code base since the sprint sessions.

Google Summer of Code (GSOC) Experience
Jan 24, 2023
Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open source software development. GSoC Contributors work with an open source organization on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors.
GSoC 2023 application begins in January 2023.
In this panel discussion, we speak with several GSOC alumni of the PyMC project to learn of their experiences including the application process, mentorship experience and post-GSoC open source participation.
