News
Open Collective Foundation, a fiscal host with over 600 collectives under its 501 (c) (3) umbrella, is closing its doors. 💔. This news has sent subsequent shock waves through the Open Collective ecosystem and community.
It is with heavy hearts that we share that our Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to dissolve the Open Collective Foundation, effective Dec. 31, 2024. Our staged dissolution process will allow our 600+ collectives the time to close or transition their work.
OCF experienced rapid growth, tripling in size after the start of the pandemic without taking the time to establish the appropriate systems and infrastructure to sustain that growth. After exploring potential solutions, we learned OCF is no longer viable.

A Briefer History of Open Source
This presentation covers a very quick history of Open Source, from the beginnings of its precursor, the Free Software movement in the 1980s until the present day. We describe important milestones in the development of Open Source within their historical context, and conclude the presentation with some ideas about post-open source.
